STORY OF THE CHÂTEAU DE LA RAPÉE
The Castle of the Grating is constructed in1825 in a huge 1300 hectare domain.
Architecture is characteristic of Anglo-Norman style and the name of the Castlereminds
that his owners were then important merchants incoal Quay of the Grating in Paris wherethey
also had a private residence. Domain wasdivided up in the course of successions, forest
on one hand, then the stud farm and tofinish the castle.
February, 1973: Josette and RobertBergeron acquire the Castle of the Grating.
In July, 1973: the restaurant of the Castleof the Grating opens its doors.
The couple Bergeron was beforerestaurateur in The Red Bowl, in the 9th
arrondissement of Paris, a reputedestablishment even at present.
After many researches and visits they hadfallen under the spell of the splendid frame,
of house and of its park in the middle of Norman Vexin.
Josette and Robert Bergeron became established with their three children in this big residence for an adventure in longles son because everything was
to make: the castle was completely empty, important jobs and investments were necessary to transform group (building of one
professional kitchen, purchase of pieces of furniture and of equipment for restoration. )the beginning of working turned out to be hard and slow,
to be full of the unexpected, but Robert Bergeron had such passion as his job and as the French traditional kitchen of the mister Escoffier, across
whom he wanted to find and to sublimatehis own Norman roots, that seriousness, savoirfaire and intractability of the newyoung owners and of their family wasrewarded.
And because the restaurant had from now on broader customers and requests of hotel business, the couple Bergeron decided then to enlarge his activity
with the creation of rooms. The most competent artisans intervened to bring refinement and comfort in
decoration of the rooms of the future hotel3 *.
That's how 10 years later, the activity of the restaurant is supplemented by a hotel of 12 rooms 3* and becomes a place of stay appraised by some French stars of epoch(Johnny Hallyday and Sylvie Vartan) or international (Annie Lennox and DaveStewart). This day The Castle of the Grating is always a family affair:
these are both threads, Pascal and Philippe Bergeron who with their own childrenmanage and who exploit affair in the same
mind of seriousness and of passion, in thelove of well made job.
The establishment is soon going tocelebrate its golden wedding.
That the time passes quickly already 45 years.
